Angas Plains Estate History
Phillip bought into a private pipeline to deliver River Murray Water to his property providing the opportunity to re-develop his mixed farm into a vineyard in the Langhorne Creek Wine region.
In 2002 Angas Plains Estate produced its first vintage of wine. A very small crush to produce PJ’s Cabernet Sauvignon.
In 2003 production expanded to produce PJ’s Shiraz and PJ’s Cabernet Sauvignon, with production increasing annually, while also maintaining the supply of grapes to some other buyers. Angas Plains Estate won their first Gold & Silver Medals for the wines.
In 2005 the wine storage was constructed on the property.
In October 2006 Angas Plains Wines Cellar Door was built, and we invited everyone to step thru our large wooden doors and experience our wines and have a rewarding experience with us.
From 2006 to now Angas Plains Estate has been working to continually take care of their environment and have the vineyard in balance which has at times been difficult with natures intervention. However the Awards and Accolades have come from many and with James Halliday awarding Angas Plains Estate a 5 star winery in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. In 2017 we were unable to supply new release wines as we delayed the bottling of our red wines to ensure our quality standard which resulted in our 5 star rating being lowered to 4 stars. Gourmet Wine Traveler has also awarded Angas Plains Estate the Cellar Door with the best food in 2015, 2016 and 2017. In 2018 Angas Plains Estate won Best Small Cellar Door.
Our facilities have been expanding ever since opening, to ensure visitors can enjoy their visit on our lovely property. Connecting with the true essence and origin of our wines and offering some real insight into the activities by the team at Angas Plains Estate.
Visitors to our cellar door bring little snippets of their lives which key into Angas Plains Estate. This blending and weaving of stories ranges from how the district and farming have changed to what’s happening in other districts and the joy and heartbreak of people’s life journeys.
It is wonderful to embrace a little special time with others and share a sip of wine! It is definitely worth the trip down the well beaten track.
